Mitch Rapp is the character that got me hooked on thrillers 15+ years ago。 Enemy at the Gates blew me away。 Certainly my favorite since Kyle Mills took over the series, which is saying quite a lot as he’s done an outstanding job taking on this series。 Enemy at the Gates is reminiscent of the earliest Rapp novels and will be a favorite for even the most hardcore Rapp fan。Kyle skillfully blends plot and character development with pulse pounding action sequences。 As usual the story “feels real,” an Mitch Rapp is the character that got me hooked on thrillers 15+ years ago。 Enemy at the Gates blew me away。 Certainly my favorite since Kyle Mills took over the series, which is saying quite a lot as he’s done an outstanding job taking on this series。 Enemy at the Gates is reminiscent of the earliest Rapp novels and will be a favorite for even the most hardcore Rapp fan。Kyle skillfully blends plot and character development with pulse pounding action sequences。 As usual the story “feels real,” and likely is closer to the truth than you’d like it to be。If you haven’t read the prior books, no problem。 The story stands alone。 Once you finish it, you’ll want to go back and read the series from the beginning, finishing with a re-read of Enemy at the Gates。 This book will not disappoint。 It’s hard, if not impossible to put down and is my favorite book of the year。 。。。more

I have enjoyed all of the books in the Mitch Rapp series, beginning with Vince Flynn and continuing to Kyle Hill。 I was privileged to be selected as a Mitch Rapp Ambassador for "Enemy at the Gates," and looked forward to reading the newest in the series。 Once again, I'm not disappointed。 Hill provides another gem in this highly readable, action packed tale。 Whether you are a Mitch Rapp fan or haven't really read the series, I highly recommend "Enemy at the Gates。" I have enjoyed all of the books in the Mitch Rapp series, beginning with Vince Flynn and continuing to Kyle Hill。 I was privileged to be selected as a Mitch Rapp Ambassador for "Enemy at the Gates," and looked forward to reading the newest in the series。 Once again, I'm not disappointed。 Hill provides another gem in this highly readable, action packed tale。 Whether you are a Mitch Rapp fan or haven't really read the series, I highly recommend "Enemy at the Gates。" 。。。more

ENEMY AT THE GATES will rank as a masterpiece if not the best novel of Kyle Mills career in the thriller genre。 Superbly written with edge-of-the-seat action, it focuses on the theme of betrayal, the kind of betrayal that damages not only a nation, but the kind that hits straight to the gut, that’s the most traumatic, the deadliest to the heart and soul, and the most personal。 It’s a betrayal involving those caught in the middle and who suffer the repercussions of the most powerful players in th ENEMY AT THE GATES will rank as a masterpiece if not the best novel of Kyle Mills career in the thriller genre。 Superbly written with edge-of-the-seat action, it focuses on the theme of betrayal, the kind of betrayal that damages not only a nation, but the kind that hits straight to the gut, that’s the most traumatic, the deadliest to the heart and soul, and the most personal。 It’s a betrayal involving those caught in the middle and who suffer the repercussions of the most powerful players in the world squaring off against each other。The storyline opens with an assessment by Mitch Rapp and CIA’s Irene Kennedy of the condition of the nation after a government traitor took out the nation’s electrical grid for a month。 It triggered a domino effect of hundreds of thousands of dead Americans from cold, violence, and absence of medical care。 Exploding substations caused devastating fires and the world economy collapsed without its most powerful engine - us。Drawing an analogy to our own current elections, a young ,charismatic president has been elected。 Known for his ruthlessness as a political strategist with an icy real politick view of the average American, Anthony Cook and wife Catherine ooze concern for their fellow citizens。 Ms Kennedy and Rapp soon learn otherwise。 They view political operatives as an infestation of the Beltway。A crisis in Uganda on the DRC-Congo border triggers a heads-up alert within the CIA。 A vicious regional warlord, a psychopathic killer, Gideon Auma, has attacked a medical research compound on the Uganda -DRC border region, either kidnapping or killing the brilliant virology researcher David Chism, seen as the future savior of the Third World。 In a White House meeting we are introduced to Nicholas Ward, the world’s first trillionaire, a philanthropist of world renown, and the backer of David Chism’s research。Unbeknown to the President, Nicholas Ward and Irene Kennedy are well acquainted, even friends, reflecting having sat at meetings with similar interests。 Ward runs a massive foundation designed to resolve the problems of humanity in areas of health care, renewable energy, employment, violence and poverty。 He has the Midas touch。President Cook is unappreciative of these sterling qualities。 They interfered with his ambitious plans in the past and will not allow future machinations to be affected by this man。 Cook makes it clear, he is not getting involved in what he states is a local Uganda Government affair。Thinking he has sidelined Kennedy, Cook insists on meeting Mitch Rapp, he needs an assessment to determine the usefulness of Rapp who he deems a potentially “powerful tool” who resonates with Love of Country, Loyalty to Comrades, and sees America as the shining Tower on the Hill。 The kind of delusions easily manipulated is the thinking of this President, for he and his wife have nefarious plans。Since the grid attack, Mitch has been on a self-improvement mission, not only of home, but job, with new weaponry explored, and utilizing physical therapy to hone a body and future performance near that of a thirty-something operative。 Scott Coleman has offered Mitch a full-time position with SEAL Demolition and Salvage( Rapp posse)。 Rapp is non-committal, until Coleman’s group are hired by Nicholas Ward to find David Chism’s party believed hiding in the jungle。 Mitch acquiesces as Irene Kennedy has sent Nicholas Ward to him for assistance。Irene Kennedy is leery of this new President, and his wife, a highly successful hedge fund manager, who only view people in terms of usefulness to their agenda goals。 Although of a newer generation, this President is a typical self-serving Washington,DC politico, one who commits to nothing unless it personally benefits the president。 You are either a friend or an enemy。It used to be that the enemies were outsiders, but this is a new technological age, where now, the enemy can be found inside the circles of government。 What happens when Enemy of the State becomes Enemy of the Administration。And what happens to those caught in the maelstrom and its aftermath? Loyalty to the individual now rates higher than loyalty to nation。Democracy can be chaotic at times, and autocracy demands all, not a sharing of power。 Kyle Mills is postulating a deliberate analogy to today’s world。 Did you take note? The Cooks see democracy as interfering in their autocratic lifestyle。 Irene Kennedy’s biggest problem and worry, is her Agency being manipulated for the power it holds。 Mitch refuses to pledge loyalty to Cook。 Irene Kennedy shares Rapp’s viewpoint that politicians are not trustworthy。 Kennedy’s antennae arise when the President lets operational status on a non-advised event slip out。Her concerns now are for Rapp’s safety and that of his operatives。 What is more disconcerting is a mole at the top level of national security。 Someone who is supplying the President with undisclosed top security info。 Mitch and Scott Coleman, reaching the same conclusion, have begun conferring with select intell insider sources。 A ticked-off American President is not conducive to smooth operations wherever they are executed。 The question now is who is the mole revealing details of their operations and personal information on those involved in the operation。 The President is enraged at Rapp’s interference that has cost him a considerable amount of monetary loss。Rapp is equally annoyed after rescuing an American special ops team who were set up to be executed and is determined to trace, track down the mole who set them all up。 The plan? Set up Nicholas Ward as the bait。 Neither Kennedy or Ward are happy about this decision; Rapp is adamant, the mole must be found。The stage is set involving some of the most cunning and powerful players on the world stage。 For the President et al, it is all about money, his/their (Wall Street)money, as in betting on a sure thing and having the rug pulled out from underneath。 For others, it is being trapped between two titans, both determined to win。 It is much like a chess game。 Move, and countermove。 For one it is about loyalty to nation and comrades in arms。For another, it is personal loyalty。 The mutual theme is betrayal and a no-win situation for all involved。ENEMY AT THE GATE is a superb novel of espionage, sabotage, political realities in today’s world, intrigue。 It accurately depicts jungle warfare as it occurs in isolated regions of the world。 Cannibalism is not an unheard of activity in the Third World。 It is fighting at its most savage。 The novel contains a look at how Mitch has settled down to commitment, a look at weaponry of future warfare。 It is an examination of US politics。 Kyle Mills’s analogy to how politics play out in the United States is stunning and very accurate。 This is a study alluding to dictatorial takeover, autocracy by personality cult with loyalty to nation firmly kicked off its pedestal。 Governments will be shaken to their core。 For Mitch Rapp and Irene Kennedy, betrayal cuts to the heart with horrific reality and an OMG finish。 It sets the stage for the next two books expected from Mills。It becomes an all out fight for Lady Liberty and her ideals。 It is a novel designed to make Westerners stop and think。 Ponder the direction we are all headed to, that is, if we are smart enough to realize what is happening and act accordingly。 This novel is just superb, Kyle Mills! Kudos 5*! 。。。more

Yes! Rapp is worried about his weight, diet, exercise and family (not in that order)。 Perfect。Within the first chapter I was hooked and ended up reading 85% of the novel in one sitting。 The only reason I didn't finish it in one bite - I had to work the next day and get up early! (Thanks Kyle for keeping me up late! lol) Several years ago, I was away with friends and someone handed me a glass of red wine。 For a single 10oz pour, the value was about $75 (just a glass, not the bottle!) Wow! It was an incredible drink, and I treasured every sip。 Same thing applies to Enemy at the Gates。 I enjoyed every word and took my time to savor the story and treasure it。 I know it will be at least twelve months until the next novel!I can easily place this novel as one of my favorites in the series。 Make no mistake folks。 The Mitch Rapp Legacy is in great hands with Kyle Mills and we get to reap the rewards of his efforts。 Bravo Zulu。 。。。more
